College Football is back! But it’s never too early to look into who to buy and who to sell.

This offseason was absolute torture. Would there be any college football AT ALL!? Which schools are in and which schools are off!? Who’s opting out!? It continues to be a difficult season for devy competitors, but this weekend gave us something to be excited about.

Though we are still waiting for the triumph return of the Big Ten and Pac 12 football, the SEC starting up this weekend inspired some sweet emotions. Now that devy owners are excited again and recommitting to their process, it’s time to try to make some moves and get an edge in your league.

This article will breakdown some early buy and sell candidates, as it’s never too early improve your roster. The running sell theme in this article is moving players who have posted huge numbers for players with more NFL potential. These types of sell candidates work best in “packages” as “complimentary” or “throw-in” pieces.

QB- Max Duggan- Sophomore- TCU

  • The Numbers– 1 game, 16-for-19 (84.2 comp %), 241 yards, 3 passing TDs, 1 interception, 1 rush for 11 yards vs. Iowa State

The Breakdown– During the preseason, news reports broke about Duggan’s potentially life threatening heart condition that would keep him out indefinitely. Therefore, it was shocking-yet-amazing news that the sophomore field general would be available to play versus Iowa State. After TCU fell behind 16-7, Duggan started the second half and turned in a stellar performance displaying great passing efficiency and gritty leadership.

The Iowa native was the Horned Frogs starting QB as a true freshman and should lead TCU the rest of the way. Duggan is a true dual threat player that you want in your fantasy QBs.  In a stacked sophomore QB class, Duggan has the one of the more modest price tags compared to the more hyped prospects. This makes him an excellent target in Superflex formats.

RB- Breece Hall- Sophomore- Iowa State

  • Numbers– 38 carries, 257 rushing yards, 6.76 YPC, 4 rush TDs, 4 catches, 20 yards

The Breakdown– Devy is about staying ahead of the game. Hall isn’t a secret in the devy community, but he might be a bit undervalued. After a 897 yard and 8 TD season as a true freshman, the Cyclone running back is currently projecting as a top RB for the 2022 NFL Draft.

In his 154 yard, 3 TD performance against TCU, Hall displayed his patience, vision, burst and ability to break tackles on two long TD runs, respectively for 75 and 32 yards. His price is only going to get more expensive, so now is the time to invest in this powerful running back. Patience is a virtue and Hall will pay off.

WR- Tutu Atwell- Junior- Louisville

  • Numbers- 27 targets, 19 receptions, 229 receiving yards, 12.1 YPR, 3 TDs
    • Most receiving yards among all Power 5 players, 2nd most receptions among all Power 5 players

The Breakdown- Tutu Atwell is probably underrated in your league. If he lands in a decent-to-good NFL offense, Atwell is going to be a very good slot receiver at the next level. The 5-foot-8 speed demon is an absolute target hog  = who used elite speed, agility and vision after the catch to make defense foolish.

The Miami native posted averaged an eye popping 18.1 yards per catch in 2019, but is only currently averaging 12.1 yards per catch this season. Though he did find the endzone once, Atwell struggled against a stacked Pittsburgh defense to finish with only 4 catches for 37 yards.

Though he’s a legit NFL slot prospect, Atwell is off to a modest start making him a potential buy low candidate. Get him now before he explodes again and the price skyrockets.

TE- Hunter Long- Senior- Boston College

  • Numbers: 2 games, 20 targets, 16 catches, 174 yards, 2 TDs

The Breakdown- The Eagles may start soaring under their new coach (Jeff Hafley) and new QB (Phil Jurkovec). Long seems to be one of the biggest benefactors from these significant upgrades. The senior tight end leading all TEs in catches, but he didn’t exactly coming out of nowhere after putting solid numbers in 2019 (28 catches, 509 yards, 2 TDs).

The 6-foot-5 253 lb prospect is a solid asset for your college squad while offering some sleeper value as a NFL TE prospect. If you are looking for a tight end upgrade, the cost should not be too get to get Long. He is the perfect player to ask for as a throw-in when you counter an offer.

QB- D’Eriq King- Senior- Miami

  • Numbers-62-for-93 (66.7 comp %), 733 passing yards, 6 pass TDs, 0 interceptions, 157 rushing yards, 1 rush TD

The Breakdown-D’Eriq king has been an absolute stud and his stock is soaring right now, but he’s never going to be a NFL starting QB. The Hurricane hurler also faces three extremely tough defenses in Clemson, Pittsburgh and Virginia in his next three games. It would wise to sell him now while the price tag is inflated and max out your return.

RB- Cam’Ron Harris- Junior-Miami

  • Numbers– 38 carries, 311 rushing yards, 8.2 YPC, 5 rush TDs, 9 catches, 34 yards

The Breakdown- The U has come out firing right out of the gate and Cam’Ron Harris has been one of their most productive players. The 4-star prospect was a popular sleeper for some devy people and they are looking really smart right now. Harris has posted two games with over 130 rushing yards and has scored in 3 straight contests.

However, Harris’ next three opponents are all  outstanding run defenses in Clemson, Pittsburgh and Virginia. Before he potentially struggles against elite competition for multiple weeks, sell him now! Harris currently projects as a depth piece on a NFL roster and would be an excellent piece to use in a package to obtain a better NFL prospect.

WR- Joshua Moore- RS Sophomore- Texas

  • Numbers- 2 games, 11 receptions, 200 receiving yards, 18.2 YPR, 4 TDs

The Breakdown- Joshua Moore has come out of NOWHERE. The 6-foot-1 wideout posted a monstrous line at Texas Tech in a historic comeback victory. Moore posted 5 catches for 73 yards and 3 TDs, as the last two scores tied the score and forced overtime in this instant classic. The 3-TD game followed a 6 catch, 127 yards and 1 TD against Texas El-Paso.

That Joshua Moore is so hot right now. But he’s still  does not profile as a significant NFL Draft prospect. If someone in your league is committed to winning a college title, reach out to that owner. Sell Moore while he is on fire in a package to grab a better, more significant NFL talent. He’s the perfect piece to include in a 2-for-1 deal.

TE- Kyle Pitts-Junior-Florida (Note: Recommended sell in 1 TE NFL league)

  • Numbers-1 game, 10 targets, 8 catches, 170 yard, 4 TDs

The Breakdown– You read that right. Sell Kyle Pitts. Yes, Pitts is an absolute YAC monster. Yep, I’m aware that he’s the highest ranked TE on most devy draft boards. Oh yeah, I did see his dominant performance against Ole’ Miss. Those arguments are actually the reason why you should SELL this uber talented player in 1 TE formats.

It’s simply not worth holding this type of capital at a position that you can easily stream on a weekly basis! Also, Pitts’ transition at the next level might not be as smooth given his size. NFL tight ends need to be able to block, which isn’t his strength by any means.

After that monster performance, managers should sell Pitts to upgrade at RB and WR, because he will bring a VERY nice return.
