Thursday Night Football Start/Sit For The Tennessee Titans & The Jacksonville Jaguars, Week 3
Welcome to week 3 of the 2019 NFL season. Hopefully, you all did well for week 2 and you weren’t affected by the big-name quarterbacks getting hurt last week. For those who are first-time readers, I’ll be doing a weekly Thursday night football start/sit article followed by a separate article that will cover the rest of those games for that week. Here’s a breakdown of how these articles will be laid out.
Must Start: These are players that you’re starting week-to-week, regardless of the opponent.
Flex Start: These are players who are more opponent dependent or players you might need to start depending on league size.
Sits: These are players that either don’t have a good matchup or don’t have much of a role on their team’s offense.
In order for me to be able to cover every team’s matchup, the explanations will be brief. I do base these recommendations off of my fantasy football experience along with the necessary research. Let’s dive into this matchup.
Must Start: N/A
Flex Start: Derrick Henry (RB) Delanie Walker (TE)
Last season, Derrick Henry performed better at home than on the road. On the road, he had 445 rushing yards on 107 attempts for a 4.2 yards per carry average, with 4 touchdowns. Last season at Jacksonville, Henry had 18 attempts for 57 yards for a 3.2 yards per carry average and zero touchdowns. In 2017 at Jacksonville, Walker had 4 catches for 61 yards for a 15.3 yards per reception average and 1 rushing touchdown. Basically your only starting these players in larger leagues or as a flex play.
Sit: Marcus Mariota (QB) Corey Davis (WR) A.J. Brown (WR) Adam Humphries (WR)
In week 3 of last season, Mariota had a stat line of 12 completions on 18 attempts for 100 yards and zero touchdowns. He also added 7 rushing attempts for 51 yards. Also, Corey Davis wasn’t much better in this game at Jacksonville. He had 2 receptions for 34 yards and zero touchdowns on 4 targets. These numbers aren’t going to make you want to start these players.
Must Start: N/A
Flex Start: Leonard Fournette (RB) D.J. Chark (WR)
In 2017, at home against Tennessee, Fournette had 14 attempts for 40 yards for a 2.9 yards per carry average, with one touchdown. Since Minshew took over at quarterback, Chark seems to be his favorite target, as they practiced together a lot this summer. Much like the Titans flex-start players, your only starting these players in larger leagues of as a flex play.
Sit: Gardner Minshew (QB) Chris Conley (WR) Dede Westbrook (WR) Geoff Swaim (TE)
Westbrook hasn’t been able to develop a connection with Minshew as of yet and not sure that improves in this game. With Tennessee having a solid defense to start the 2019 season, I’m not expecting this game to be a high scoring one. If you love defensive football this might be the game for you. The running backs are the only thing I’ll really be watching for, along with seeing if Minshew can improve from last week’s performance.
