Robert Woods is a winning fantasy football move

Robert Woods, Jarvis Landry and TY Hilton are “older” receivers with unreal value that can help you win your league now.

In my last buy-low article, the focus was looking for those cheaper studs with clear WR1 upside. For this article, we are looking for veteran WR2’s who may be lost among the deep pool of young WR talent in the league. Robert Woods, TY Hilton and Jarvis Landry all have discounted price tags right now, offering great value for a serious 2020 title contender.

Robert Woods– He’s So Hot Right Now (on Twitter)

  • 27 years old/7 seasons played
  • 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 232.9 fpts*
  • Position Rank: #14 overall PPR WR*
  • Stats: 139 targets , 90 receptions, 1,134 rec yards, 2 TDs (POSITIVE REGRESSION?)
  • Dynasty Football Digest- Dynasty ADP (June 2020): 50.67 ADP
  • My Overall Dynasty Positional Ranking (June 2020): #18

Mr. Woods demands your respect. The former USC stud was targeted at least 130 times and averaged 1,175 receiving yards over the last two years. After finishing PPR WR 11 in 2018, he managed to finish PPR WR14 in 2019 leagues with only 2 TDs! With Brandin Cooks in Houston, Woods is a prime candidate for an increase in TDs and targets.

As the 23rd WR off the board according to our June 2020 ADP data, the data trend shows managers are recognizing his upside and his draft capital is increasing so the time to trade for him is now. Woods has a floor of a mid-WR2 with a ceiling of a mid-WR1 with that big target increase and clear positive TD regression.

TY Hilton– Still the Top Target in Indy

  • 30 years old/8 seasons played
  • 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 125.1 fpts* (only 10 games played)
  • Position Rank: #57 overall PPR WR*
  • Stats: 68 targets, 45 receptions, 501 rec yards, 5 TDs
  • Dynasty Football Digest- Dynasty ADP (June 2020): 63.33 ADP
  • My Overall Dynasty Positional Ranking (June 2020): #32

Don’t let the overall ranking fool you, as Hilton could be in for a BIG rebound year. Hilton’s ranking reflects his dynasty value, not his 2020 output. The 30-year-old speedster is simply behind an abundance of significantly younger WRs. That’s what makes the Colts speedster a potential steal for team’s looking to make a 2020 title run.

The biggest benefit to the FIU product is clearly the Colts’ upgrade at QB. Future Hall-of-Fame QB Philip Rivers is a much better deep ball passer than Jacoby Brissett, and that’s where Hilton excels. Additionally, Colts are still playing in a dome, a bolstered run game improves offensive efficiency, no real competition to his WR1 status this season and being in a contract year are all added bonuses to Hilton’s potential 2020 output.

Though Hilton’s dynasty value will steadily decrease after the 2020 season, a contender could cash in on a cheap, locked-in WR2 with a history of solid production. Test those waters if you have 2020 championship aspirations.

Jarvis Landry– Consistently Underrated Production

  • 27 years old/6 seasons played
  • 2019 PPR Fantasy Points: 237.4 fpts*
  • Position Rank: #12 overall PPR WR*
  • Stats: 138 targets, 83 receptions, 1,174 rec yards, 6 TDs
  • Dynasty Football Digest- Dynasty ADP (June 2020): 81 ADP
  • My Overall Dynasty Positional Ranking (June 2020): #33

A nod to @ff_walrus for his relentless trolling of Landry vs OBJ on our podcast, A Tale of Two Rivals. Do I believe Landry is a better fantasy WR than his former LSU teammate? Not whatsoever, but Landry is no doubt undervalued.

After a solid rookie campaign, the former Dolphins stud has finished as a top 12 PPR receiver in 4 out of the last 5 seasons. His lowest finish was the WR18 in 2018, which is pretty amazing for a player currently slotted in the late 7th round according to DFD June ADP. Landry’s legendary hands have never caught less than 80 passes in his career.

Though OBJ is the sexy pick with the highest ceiling in the evolving Browns offense, the other LSU Tiger is a proven producer who has a clear rapport with QB Baker Mayfield. The 2017 NFL reception leader is a solid low-end WR2 or an amazing WR3 option if you are contending in 2020, while currently only at the price of a low WR3. Get him if you can.
